Body is Weak but Spirit is Strong

Daniel was born of royal and noble birth but in the year 605 BC Daniel along with his three friends known by their Babylonian names Shadrack, Meshack and Abendego were taken captive by Nebuchadnezzer and brought into Babylon. Daniel’s body was held captive by the king but because Daniel was a man of integrity and he refused to lower his standards although his body belonged to the king, his mind, his spirit, his soul remained property of the Lord. Prov 21:1 says that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord. Daniel was in a situation that was outside of his control, but God was still in control. The word says that the Lord will make your enemy to be at peace with you. Proverbs 18:16 says “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men”. So Daniel the prophet had favor with his captors and they respected him and elevated him so he was not only a prophet but he became known as a statesman because he used his gifts that were given him by the Lord.
In the Old Testament visions were a common form of revelation. Daniel had the spiritual gift of prophesy, he had the gift of revelation, he dreamed dreams, he had word of wisdom and word of knowledge. His anointing increased. First, he only interpreted another’s dream by means of a dream of his own. Later, he interpreted dreams and experiences of Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. By the time we get to Chapter 7 Daniel is having his own visions – truly grand spiritual experiences. The story of chapter 8 reports a spiritual “transportation” whereby he received, in a land far from home, a vision of the future as it would affect his nation. His gift becomes more powerful and he progresses to a physical sighting of the angelic Gabriel whom he reports looks like the very Son of God. .
Although Daniel’s anointing was powerful he was not satisfied he wanted all that God had for him. So for 21 days he went on a “chemdah” fast by omitting all of the pleasant things. Often things that we do that satisfy our physical bodies and put a petition between us and God. The word of God says that we must worship God in spirit and in truth. When we fast, afflict our flesh we strengthen the spirit man and we get closer to God.
